Car finance when you are self-employed
Sole trader, subcontractor, director of your own limited company: self-employment should not mean second-class finance, but mainstream lenders often struggle with income that does not arrive as a tidy monthly payslip. Specialist lenders understand it.

We are in Lancashire and a large share of our customers are trades. Variable income is routine here, not an obstacle to be explained away.
What helps your application
- Proof of income. Typically three months' business bank statements; SA302s or tax-year overviews help for larger amounts.
- Time trading. Twelve months or more self-employed is easier, but newer businesses are still considered.
- Realistic affordability. Base it on your steady months, not your best ones. A payment you can make in a quiet January is the right payment.
Seasonal and variable income
Trades with busy and quiet seasons are normal to us. Lenders on our panel look at annual patterns, not just last month. Bring a full year of statements if you can.
Finance is subject to status, affordability and lender approval. Over 18s, UK residents only. We only run a soft-search eligibility check after we have spoken to you and you have agreed to it. A soft search does not affect your credit score and is not visible to other lenders. We are a credit broker, not a lender.
Three straightforward steps
No pressure at any point, and you are free to stop whenever you like. A hard credit search only ever happens at full application, and we will tell you before it does.
-
Tell us where you stand
A short form, about two minutes. Sending it does not run any credit check by itself and puts you under no obligation.
No credit check at this stage -
We call you before anything is searched
A person reads your enquiry and phones you. Only once you have agreed do we run a soft-search eligibility check with lenders on our panel who consider adverse credit. A soft search leaves no footprint and other lenders cannot see it.

These figures are illustrative only and not an offer of finance. They use the representative APR; your rate and payment depend on your circumstances and the lender's decision. Finance is subject to status, affordability and lender approval. Over 18s, UK residents only.

How long do I need to have been self-employed?
Longer is easier, and 12+ months opens more options, but newer businesses are considered, especially with a deposit or part-exchange. Subject to status.
What documents will I need?
Usually three months' bank statements; possibly SA302s or accounts for bigger loans. We will tell you exactly what is needed before anything is submitted.
Does CIS or zero-hours work count?
Yes. CIS subcontractors, agency and zero-hours workers are considered by lenders on our panel. Consistent recent income matters more than the label.
Our promise: we will tell you if we cannot help, and why. No one can guarantee car finance, and anybody who says otherwise is selling you something.
